Why is it that my iPod Touch has a better connection to the internet than my Vista computer?

I have a Windows Vista 32 bit comp. I use a Netgear WG111v2 adapter and both my iPod Touch and my computer go to the same connection, but my computer shows that the network is local only. How can I fix it?Why is it that my iPod Touch has a better connection to the internet than my Vista computer?
