What would be the steps I would take to create a Social Networking Site?

I have been doing some research on how to create a social networking site but I am confused on a lot of the lingo. I would really appreciate it if you could explain simply how to go about creating such a site. What would be the steps I would take to create a Social Networking Site?
First off, get a boatload of cash. You'll need it either to hire a developer, or to go to college to learn how to program. From there, you just need to put together a plan....I'd start small, considering the fact that the social networking market is flooded and there is about a 99% chance that whatever you create will flop.

If you plan to do the school thing, you'll want to make some friends. Even a rock-star of a developer would take a year or two to develop facebook to its current status, flying solo.

Oh and you'll also want to plan to spend a lot of time practicing. It takes about 10 years, or 10 thousand hours of practice to become a master of any aspect of development (such as web development...which is what you'd need).

I don't say this to tell you your idea is ridiculous. I say it because you are profoundly underestimating what goes into this, simply by asking this question...as if there were some cookbook out there that would guide you through making a social networking site.

You don't necessarily need to be a pro, but you need to realize that this is not something you can just read tutorials about online. It is serious, and it takes a lot of money and a lot of drive. What would be the steps I would take to create a Social Networking Site?
As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name.

If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today.

As an experienced webmaster I recommend BlueHost service which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting %26amp; I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them.

Good Luck!
There is no simple answer.

You will need to learn HTML, CSS, PHP or ASP and a database language to use with your scripting language ie. PHP or ASP. And Javascript and HTML DOM cant hurt to learn either.
