Networking?

networking problem.

hey

i shared a file on the first comp and the second comp detected the file but i cant open or copy the file. It keep poping a message ' access is denied. Please contact ..............'

I off all the firewalls in the two comp, but still unable to access the file.

any one know how to fix this?

thxNetworking?
Go to the computer with the file/folder. Click on the containing folder, go to Properties, Sharing, Share this folder on the network. Of course the folder containing the folder must also be set for ';Sharing';.Networking?
Make sure the user on the 2nd computer also has an account on the 1st computer. This is an error of user security, not firewall.
I'm assuming your running XP as your OS. My answer will not be correct for any other OS.

When you share a folder in XP, there is a simple option that most people overlook when setting up the share.

All indications you have stated show that you have done all the right steps to share out the folder - so this should be the last step that is needed to be done. . .

There is a checkbox labled ';Allow network users to change my files'; that needs to be checked to allow remote computers to add/modify/delete files in that folder. I know this sounds silly and contrite, but this is commonly overlooked.
in th host system goto file which u want to share and right click on it, goto properties and uncheck the ';read only'; property.
Is file / printer sharing enabled on both computers?

Reset security of the share, and also the NTFS security of the file on its computer.

Give the group 'every one' full rights.
is it asking for the key? the most likley problom is that the user is not allowed to open that file. if your computer has more than one user on it there is a adminastrater or the person in charge of the computer. if you are not the person in charge have the adminastrater log in and that should fix the problom
if you can see the file then its not a firewall issue as you wouldn't be able to see it at all. Your problem is file permissions.
You need to give access to the file from the SECURITY tab when you right click over the file, look for SHARED PERMISSIONS.

You can use the EVERYONE group, or just add your account to the list, and give yourself appropriate permissions.
