How would you make a case to your management to include security with network management?Networking?
explain how dangerous it is for a business network to be unsecured. back that up with the likely hood of a single user contracting a virus and multiply that by the number of people on your network to show him/her the likely hood of contracting a virus. remind them that the numbers are for viruses only and not for malware, spyware, adware, trackers, bloodhounds, hackers, ghost email hosting, etcNetworking?
Ask them if they just want you to put a pubic site up with the abilty for everyone to access all the company data. That would be really handy and about the same thing.
I don't think anyone is stupid enough to not include security anymore.
Calculate the cost of several different break-in scenarios... take into account loss of confidential data, losing the customer or order database, cost of recovering all the information, possible lawsuits.. and so on...
Then present that in comparison to the cost of implementing security.
Include, if you can, some estimates on how many people this has already happened to... if you can throw in some actual case studies, even better.
in this day and age it's a no brainer, any management team NOT thinking about security is insane - or they're all hacking the network!
