How to do I tell my laptop to put Windows XP in charge of networking?

I have an IBM Thinkpad Model T42. When I first got it from my company, Windows was in charge of handling the networking, both ethernet and wireless. Now for some reason, the Thinkpad is using it's own IBM Access software, and it's become very difficult to get a wireless connection.

How can I force the laptop to not use the IBM Access software, and use Windows XP SP2 to manage the network connections? How to do I tell my laptop to put Windows XP in charge of networking?
You probably have to DELETE the IBM Access software from the STARTUP folder and your Programs section. Or turn it OFF by unchecking it from MSCONFIG. Just run MSCONFIG from RUN.

Then go into your Network Connections and turn on the Microsoft Wireless Access option.

I hope that your company is not MAD.How to do I tell my laptop to put Windows XP in charge of networking?
Hmmm it might be you set it to default. Better contact the IBM company for support for it is a new one. Else If you have the balls and daring enough un-install the IBM access software and that remains the Windows XP as default network connection. I hope you know how the re-install windowsXP hehehehe

What are some China networking tips and strategies for a college student?

Next month I will be traveling to Guangzhou, China to take Chinese (Mandarin) lessons. I'll be staying there for about 5 weeks and I wanted to know what strategies I can use to network with businessmen and businesswomen while I am there. I am not sure how their culture functions. Also what places are good to network. Any other tips will also be great. Please feel free to get detailed and provide more information you think might be helpful like if you've traveled yourself. By the way, I am a Senior studying Supply Chain Management (business). Thanks in advance! What are some China networking tips and strategies for a college student?
#1: get to know a local people, once you have the one connection, you can get to know more people. You might hear of ';guan xi'; (means relationship in Chinese). That' s the No.1 guideline.

#2: if you happen to know a friend, you can ask for help: invite all the '; friends'; you want to know to a dinner. Dinner is the most popular networking event in China.

#3: search for any conference/forum/submit held on Guangzhou during your stay and register for it. Even you are not interested in the event topics, you want to meet people.

From culture perspective: show them how you can help them with the relationships, especially for local business people who don't have global travel experience. They want to know why they want to spend time with you, a stranger without a 鈥済uan xi'; in China. What are some China networking tips and strategies for a college student?
Look for the CCTV channel in your local TV provider. Also you can contact the offices of CCTV by going on the web. I believe they could give you some very good input. P.S. This is the English only Chinese TV runs 24/7
the best place is in a Chinese restaurant, some guys might want to have some alchohol while others do not. and most chinese are friendly to foreigners, and they would be eager to network with you. and if you have any mandarin problems i would try my best to help you out. ask me if you have more specified questions.

How much energy source consumption/ Co2 production is networking media worldwide responsible for?

I would like to know to what extent is the networking media of the whole world (i.e. internet media cables, wires, routers, switches etc.) contributes to the deterioration of worldwide energy sources. And, if possible, find out how much this affects global warming. How much energy source consumption/ Co2 production is networking media worldwide responsible for?
ooooh, now you speaka my language!

That's really a tough question to answer. We do know that these devices consume quite a bit of energy. The average router or switch will pull about 120-240W, depending on how many ports are used, and remember these are devices that are constantly powered on! Plus on top of what the actual networking devices consume, you have to look at how much energy is used to air condition all the network rooms in the world. Here's a good link about some of this:

More and more products are coming out though that are supposed to be a lot more efficient in their energy use, so as some of the older equipment gets replaced, hopefully these new devices get installed in their places. Industry leaders like google are concentrating a lot more on making their network rooms highly efficient too:

Don't know if this will answer your question completely, but I hope it helps.
