How to join Aftra or SAG?? Is it necessary.?

I want to know the cost, rules on how to join, and which one to join as an aspiring filipino of minority race actor. I have done a couple of movie extra roles on the TV show Trauma and i have just gotten my first part in an unpaid Principal role as a supporting actor in a student film. I have been with SF Casting networks for almost 5 years which is basically just like LA castings. It's not really an agency though. go to the website. Do you have to be signed with a talent agency? SF castings is just not working for me i really want to do more serious roles that pay really good. Roles that Shia Labeouf, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill, Megan Fox, and Michael Cera get. Or even just semi seroius roles as a supporting actor or an actor with around 100-125 lines. How to join Aftra or SAG?? Is it necessary.?
You can join AFTRA: ~anybody~ with enuff $$$ can join AFTRA.

Go to their website to find out the cost.

SAG: you need to get lines in a SAG production, or get 3 SAG vouchers doing bg.

You can't just join cuz you want to.

If you want ';serious'; roles, you need a ';serious'; resume.

No, you don't need an agent, but an agent will have access to the ';better'; roles.

BTW: a ';supporting'; credit can be for two lines of seven words.
