Ok I was thinking it might be nice in my house If I had networking outlets installed so I can just plug a computer into an outlet anywhere. I already have wireless, but their are some things that work better on a wired network. I see many schools and businesses do this, I was wondering what it would cost to have it done in your home? How much would it cost to install networking outlets?
In my new house, they quoted me $500 to install 6 wired LAN outlets. This is new construction and they don't have to cut holes or anything since it is new, so I would not be surprised if a professional outfit might charge $750 or more for such a job.
An alternative would be to find a computer savvy high school or college student that is good with a drill and saw and knows how to handle drywall and have them do it at a reduced cost.
Finally, you can go to a home improvement store like Home Depot and buy everything you need to install your own wired network and do it for cost yourself.
Good LuckHow much would it cost to install networking outlets?
It would cost the same as running any other cables through your walls. It could end up being very difficult and expensive. I would recommend you check out the other options out there. There are devices called ';Powerline Network Adapters'; that let you use your existing power lines in your home to send your network data without having to install any new lines. They have been getting great reviews and work very well. There are lots of options and they run in the $60-$80 range. You get all of the advantages and a lot less of the hassles since you are not making permanent changes to your home.
Here is a link to a site that has the top 5 devices for doing this listed.
