How do hotels reroute your browser to their website? and can I do that too?

I was in Vegas a few years ago and when I tried to use their internet the first website I had to go to was the hotel's website, even if I had set Yahoo as a home page. Often hotels will redirect you to a site they choose until you pay for internet service. At which point you've free access.

They just redirect all DNS requests from your IP to their own internal servers. It can be done with iptables, etc.How do hotels reroute your browser to their website? and can I do that too?
You need a wireless access point that supports HTTP redirect.

You can put DD-WRT on a linksys router OR you can buy a NETGEAR ProSafe WG103 that supports the feature natively.
